Catherine Nicolson was born in Criachan, Barra in the Outer Hebrides in early 1824, and was baptised on 14 Apr 1824 at St. Brendan's, Craigston, Barra. She was the daughter of Niel Nicolson and Marion MacDonald[1].
On 13 Jan 1846 in the small hamlet of Craigston (probably at St. Brendan's Church) on the west side of Barra, Catherine married John McPherson[3].
The couple had at least five children[4], although in 1861 the two youngest were living or staying with their maternal grandparents Niel & Marion Nicolson[5].
Unfortunately, Catherine died an untimely death from Tetanus at the (apparent) age of only 36[6].
