Biography

Born in Chicago in 1951, but grew up in the suburb of Bellwood. Attended public schools there, and Proviso West High School in Hillside, illinois. Attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism. Worked in TV news in Duluth, Minnesota and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Attended the University of Minnesota and received a Master's degree in Mass Communications. Taught broadcast journalism at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended Penn State University. Received a Ph.D. in Mass Communications. Currently living in Austin, Texas. Associate Professor in the School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Texas State University, in San Marcos, Texas.

Would ultimately like to find a common ancestor for the Scheemda/Winschoten Niekamps, and those in the Veendam area.
GERMAN_ROOTS
My ancestors back to about 1800 are Dutch Niekamps, but it was a Niekamp born in Borgholzhausen, Germany in 1784 who started the Niekamps around Scheemda, Groningen. Trying to learn more about his ancestors and relatives.

Hi Ray!

First of all we all are wishing you a very happy and healthy 2020! And for a great start of this new year we will have a Scan-a-Thon again.
