Biography

Author of:

The Budington Buddington Family: Fourteen Generations in America[1]

Mr. Nielson listed himself in his book on page 383 as:

11-14250 Richard Walter (11) NIELSON (b. 28 Oct., 1928; d. ) mar. (1) BENNINGHOFF, Mary Joell, mar. (2) KRUGER, Eve June, mar. (3) (DONCHIN) TURIEL, Arlene Sandra.

From pages 475-476:

Richard received his B.S. in Business Administration from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. He was employed in sales and marketing by several companies and spent 16 years in trade magazine publishing, first with Thompson Publishing Co., a division of Dun and Bradstreet; then he later founded his own company and published three trade magazines in the computer design, data processing and bio-medical electronics fields. After selling his publishing company interests, he became an officer with Quotron Systems, Inc., where he was in charge of product development and marketing. Later, he again formed another company and spent nine years in the application of computers to the financial community. He lived in Elizabeth, N.J., Clark, N.J., Kent, Ohio, New York City, Scarsdale, N.Y., Scotch Plains, N.J., and Westport and Weston, Ct.

All my life I had heard stories of the whaling relatives of the family. The rescue of the "RESOLUTE" and the President's desk were mentioned many time with very little impression. Several years ago as a Christmas present to my mother, Elsie May (10) KNOWLES, I tried to put in proper persepctive and order the several generations leading to her birth. As the research progressed, it became obvious that there were many branches of the family, each with some unique and interesting story. I was living in Westport, Ct. at the time, and even the main beach along Long Island Sound in that city was at one time owned by a family member. The next town (Fairfield) had in preparation of the upcoming (within five years) celebration to the bicentennial of the United States, a model of the town as it existed in 1779. That was the year the British landed and burned the town, many homes and farms. I found the ancestral home of that branch of our family sacked and burned, and damages were later awarded to several family members. The research continued with the recruitment of a number of widely scattered family members, we were able to assemble an amazing amount of documentation. The decision to put it all in book form was a difficult and expensive one to make. But in the over fifteen years of preparation and the over 44,000 hours that I can document that went into this effort (not counting the thousands of hours spent by others), we have an accurate report of most of the family and are able to show where further research can prove beneficial.

The children of Richard Walter (11) NIELSON and Eve June KRUGER were:

12-19860. Renee Eve June (12) NIELSON (b. 20 June, 1958; d. ) mar. DAY, Lee Irwin. 12-19870. Eve Michele (12) NIELSON (b. 18 March, 1960; d. ) mar THOMPSON, Scott Warren. 12-1988. Alecia Loren (12) NIELSON (b 18 May, 1963; d. ) mar. SCHILLING, Eric.

The author of this profile has created it out of deep respect and reverence for Mr. Nielson and his efforts on behalf of the Budington/Buddington family. Godspeed, Richard Walter Nielson.
