Richard Nimocks is currently believed to be the patriarch of the NIMOCKS family line in the United States. Although there is reference to his birth year of 1744[1], at this time, there is no sourced information about his place of birth. The American Genealogical-Biographical Index (AGBI) lists his birthplace as Massachusetts while the North America, Family Histories, 1500-2000 list his birthplace to be Scotland[2] along with the Sons of the American Revolution[3] and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution[4]. None of these offer any sources to corroborate the place of birth. The story of the advent of the Nimocks name in America tells of Richard and his brother James immigrating with their parents circa 1746. The parents both died on the cruise and a Christian family brought the brothers to Westfield, Massachusetts Bay and raised them there.[5]

In 1772, Richard married Zerviah Noble[6][7][8] From 1773 to 1795, they produced 10 children.

Richard served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War in Colonel David Brewer's 20th Regiment (9th Regiment of Foot) /Captain Malcolm Henry's company 1775-1776 and attained the rank of Sergeant.[9]

Richard died in 1803 and is buried in Westfield, Massachusetts.[10]

Looking for Nimocks that did NOT descend from Richard and James.
