Biography
Maharaja Badra was the son of Prince Ngaobram Bir Sai, the Senapati ( general) and grandson of King Pamheiba. [1] Badra Singh was holding several posts including that of Yaiskul Lakpa (minister) during the reign of his cousin Bhagyachandra (r.1763-1799). For his involvement in a conspiracy against his cousin, Badra Singh was exiled to Cachar in 1796 . [2] Badra Singh ascended the throne of Manipur, succeeding his grandson, Raghov Singh, as the tributary king of the Burmese emperor in 1825 during the first Anglo- Burmese War. He reign for a few months and abdicated the throne in favour of his nephew Gambhir Singh. He died on September 23, 1829 He was cremated at Uripok ( Present day Cherap Court, Imphal).
