Biography

William Noble was born in March 1688 in Somerset County, Maryland. Isaac Noble and Mary his wife are named in the baptismal record of son William Noble dated 22 March 1688. A note following states Mr. West I desire ye to record that the above named William Noble may be free at 18 years of age. Mary Freaks[1]

William's father died just before his third birthday. His mother married Henry Frakes by 1692. It was her note entered into the record to assert his freedom at his maturity. William grew up in Somerset County, and at nineteen he married Elizabeth Ward in 1707. They later moved south to North Carolina, settling near Bath. William and Elizabeth had six known children: Samuel, William, Joseph, James, Hannah,& Rachel.

William acquired several lots of land which he farmed. He wrote his will on October 23, 1723, in which he described his land holdings when he devised it to his sons. He died sometime before June of 1724 when the will was proved and recorded in court..


Will: October 23, 1723, Probated in 1724. From William Noble, Bath Co. N. C. 1723, proved 6/1724 Sons, Samuel, William, Joseph, James Daughter Hannah, wife and executor Elizabeth.. Eldest son Samuel to get 1/2 of the land formerly for John Milson Ling. Son William 1/2 of said land. Son Joseph land I bought from Capt. Thomas Taylor on White Oak River. Son James Land where I am now attesting, Daughter Hannah a cow and daughter Rachel a cow. Other Legacies. Exec. Wife Elizabeth.[2]
