The marriage of Samuel B. McCutchen and Frances Jenette Noble was from McCutcheons in Augusta Co, VA: Samuel McCutcheon "of North Mountain" born about 1715 in Scotland or Ireland. He died after 26 Jun 1797 in Augusta Co, VA. He married Frances, some say Noble, a possible sister of John Noble, not daughter, as some claim. The date of death of Frances Noble was from MyHeritage: Frances Noble died about 1790 in the Borden Grant, Augusta County, VA. Samuel McCutchen was born about 1713 in Ulster, Ireland. He died about 1790 in North Mountain, Augusta County, VA. He was the son of James McCutchen and _____. Will of Jennate McCutchen: 23 Apr 1789; 15 Sep 1789 Augusta Co, VA: As touching my part of William McCutchen’s Estate, I allow to be divided and I allow James Browlee Sr. two shares of said Estate, and as touching a piece of land lying on the Pine Run, I gave William McCutching the plot and told him to get out the patent in the name of it can be obtained by law. I allow it to be divided among the legatees. My mulatto wench if the rest of the legatees is willing to set her free. Signed: Jennate (her mark) McCutchen. From Find A Grave: Frances Noble McCutcheon. Birth: 1715. Death: 1790. Burial at North Mountain Burying Ground in Middlebrook, Augusta Co, VA. NOTE: Frances Noble is believed to be the daughter of John Noble who died 1752 in Augusta Co., with a Will & survey book 1, p 77 (not) and possibly a Mary Calhoun who resided on Buffalo Creek, a branch of the James River, not far from the Natural Bridge, in current Rockbridge Co, then in Augusta Co. She married Samuel McCutcheon (McCutchan, McCutchen) in Augusta Co., Virginia. I have seen her name also listed as Jeanette or Nettie, but never seen a source of documentation for it. They had 6 known children: Charles, William, John, Margaret, Capt. SAMUEL and James. My later lines all used McCutchan on their gravestones, but they all work. It is believed she is the sister of John Noble (probably). She is listed on the monument, beside her husband Samuel and a John. It says: FRANCES NOBLE McCUTCHEON, 1715 - 1790. Their son Capt. Samuel McCUTCHEN is also on this monument with once again a different spelling. I am not sure that the years of birth on the monument are accurate for both Frances and Samuel (and some others). Despite the differing dates their coupledom and children are well documented. Sadly, in 1911 the remaining gravestones at North Mountain were used as part of the concrete foundation of the (then) owner's barn nearby. How could they? The Bethel Presbyterian Church put up the existing monument at the North Mountain site in the 1980's. The North Mountain Meeting House members went on to create Bethel Presbyterian Church. Her marker was not included in the 12 Aug 1936 WPA Inventory by Scioto M. Herndon, but it is documented here. It may be part of the foundation nearby. 1742: Samuel McCutchen and his wife, Frances, deposed. 1746: Samuel McCutchen and Frances sold part of their land to James Shields. 1768: From the Virginia, U.S., Land, Marriage, and Probate Records, 1639-1850: Frances McCutchan. Date: 12 May 1768 in Augusta Co, VA. Property: Tract Samuel, Sr. now lives on, 150 acres. Corner Borden’s patent line. William Sproul’s land. Remarks: Samuel McCutchan, Sr. to son, Samuel: 5 shillings and diverse and good causes done to me. Delivered to John McCutchan, March Court, 1774. Description: Grantor’s wife. 1768: Samuel McCutcheon Jr. bound himself to take care of his parents Samuel and Frances. Samuel McCutchen Sr. bound himself to convey 20 acres to Samuel Jr. when he is no longer able to do for himself. 1791, 14 Feb: Frances Noble McCutcheon was named for the last time in a deed for 150 acres to her son Samuel Jr. She probably died soon after.
