Obituary. Lindsay Post, May 21, 1909. "Old Mariposa Pioneer Dead Mr. Hezekiah Noble Passes Away on Monday Aged 85 Years
One of the oldest pioneers of Mariposa township passed away Monday May 17th in the person of Mr. Hezekiah Noble, of Lot.8, Con. 2, Mariposa , aged 85 years, 8 months and twelve days. Mr. Noble was born in Markham, Ontario. His father was originally a native of Pennsylvania, but subsequently moved to Canada. During the rebellion of 1837 he refused to enlist, not from a spirit of disloyalty, but rather from strong religious principles. As a result of his refusal his lands were confiscated. His son, Mr. Hezekiah Noble, moved to the Township of Mariposa at the age of seventeen. At that time Lindsay was practically a wilderness. Eight years afterwards he married Julia Ann Moore, of Markham, and afterwards. moved from Lot 2 to Lot 8, where he has resided ever since. To this union was born a family of nine children, five of whom are still Lindsay [sic]; AIzina (Mrs. .D. Culbert) of Little Britain; Lydia Ann (Mrs. T.Reazin),. Salem; Mariposa; Alfretta, (Mrs. Chas. Dunn) Mariposa and Mr. A. H. Noble, living on the homestead. Twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren are living. Mrs. Noble also survives and is his junior by four years. In religion Mr. Noble was a consistent member ‘ the Christian church, at Little Britain. Mr. Noble was one of the old school of Reformers and has been almost a life-long reader of The Post. Mr. Daniel Noble, of Mariposa, is the only living brother of the deceased. The deceased celebrated his Diamond wedding on Jan 25, and has not been well since, but got out occasionally. He was to church three weeks ago, it being communion Sunday, and enjoyed it so much he could not refrain from telling about it on his return. Since then be has failed rapidly. , He chose his own pallbearers, his two sons-in-law. He will be buried at Little Britain Christian cemetery on Wednesday, May 19.
