Biography

Angus Noble was born on 8 February 1825 and christened 27 Feb in Dores, Inverness, Scotland to parents Andrew Noble and Margaret McTavish.^[1]

He was the youngest of his parents' children, baptised on the following days and place: ^[2]

Angus married Janet Frazer on 3 Jun 1852 in Boleskine, Inverness, Scotland.^[12] She was the daughter of Thomas Fraser and Anne McGillivray.

Angus emigrated from the Scottish highlands to Australia on the Fortune in 1853 at age 27 with his wife (Janet Frazer, aged 22) and their daughter, Margaret, who had been born on the ship during the voyage. ^[13]

According to ship manifests, he was a farm labourer - who could read and write - whose native place was Dores, Inverness-shire. His parents were Andrew Noble (living in Dores) and Margaret McTavish (deceased). He had two relatives already in the NSW colony: his brother Andrew Noble (30yo, living in Broulee, NSW); his uncle Donald McTavish (54yo).^[14]
