Biography

Thomas Nock was named as a son and heir in his father's 1749 will. He predeceased his mother's writing of her will in 1784.

He had three children:[1]

  1. Thomas Nock
  2. Mary Nock
  3. Barthia Nock

He was called "Thomas Nock Jr." to distinguish him from his uncle Thomas Nock, Sr.

He died in 1784. The original profile includes "Mothers will, states, Hessen, Germany" for death place.

Slaves

In 1775, he manumitted two enslaved people that he owned jointly with his mother

Matthew, aged "upwards" of 21 years old
Glasgow, aged 13 years and 7 months (born October 1762).

Then in August, 1777, Thomas Nock emancipated sixteen enslaved people that he himself owned. Some of them had been freed informally, but the formal document was signed and filed with Duck Creek monthly meeting in 1777

In 1779, he released two additional African American boys who were not technically enslaved. They had been indented to him until age 25, under his father's will.[2]
