Bartley was born on 24 Jul 1918 in Stoughton, Saskatchewan, Canada. He is the son of William Harrison Noland and Maude May Colclaizer. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 14 Apr 1942 to 26 Oct 1945 in World War II, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was attached to the 318th and 339th Bombardment Squadrons in the 30th Bombardment Group in the Pacific Theatre of operations from 2 Jan 1944 (?) to 14 Oct 1945;[1] he sailed from San Francisco on the USS Wharton (AP-7) on 3 Jan 1943.[2] He married Shirley Maxine Nelson on 19 Sep 1948 in Ames, Iowa. They had seven children, although one died in infancy. Bartley passed away on 15 Nov 2001 in Jefferson, Iowa.[3][4]
