Biography

Sarah, daughter of Peter Noland and Anne Wilcoxen,[1] was born about 1771.[2]

She married a Carroll[3] and died in 1845.[4]

Research Notes

The will of Peter Noland (husband of Anne Wilcoxen), dated 16 April 1796, names sons Samson, Henry, Moses, and Pierce. It also names his daughters, Martha Carroll, Delilah Davis, and Sarah Carroll, and James Carroll (Carrel) and William Davis - likely his sons-in-law.[5][6]

Chapter 8 of J. Lynn Noland's Milesian Mountaineers is about Peter Noland's family and its migration to North Carolina. Peter's 1796 will is found in the N.C. State Archives, Wilkes County Will Book #1 - "Last Will and Testament of Peter Noland" - p. 485.[7]

Henry, Peter's son, served in the American Revolution, "enlisting in the Granville County [NC] area" (p 118).[7] Peter's son "Moses remained in his father's home as did two of the daughters. Martha had apparently married a Carrel and moved from under Peter's roof" at the time of the 1790 census for the Morgan District of Wilkes County (p 121).[7]

"On July 6, 1792, Deliliah Noland married William Davis. Six months later, on January 23, 1793, Sarah Noland married James Carrel" (p 122).[7] A chart in Chapter 10 (page 136) omits daughter Sarah and shows James Carrell as Martha's husband (based on penciled notes by H.P. Noland, it appears that the chart contains many errors and inconsistencies).[8]
