Biography

Daughters of the American Revolution
Thomas Noland is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A084241.

Thomas, son of Philip Noland and Elizabeth Awbrey,[1] was born in Virginia in 1748. He married Mary Eleanor Luckett.[2]

Thomas Noland served in Maryland as a Lieutenant during the American Revolution (see page 80, https://jemgen.com/books/ArchivesofMaryland18brow.pdf). It is believed that he served one year in the "Flying Camp" a fast response unit. He died 12 March 1811 at Noland's Ferry, Loudoun County, Virginia.[2][3]

He left a will dated 2 February 1811 that was proven on 14 May 1811, in which he named "his wife, Eleanor, his sons, William, Dade, Samuel, Thomas, and Lloyd, and his daughters, Elizabeth and Jane Love."[1][4]

Research Notes

Connection to Patriot Ancestors Thomas Harrison,[8] James Barbour, and Robert Callender:

William and Catherine (Callender) Noland's son, Thomas J. Noland, was the father of Robert Callender Noland, who married Sarah Barbour Yantis, a descendant of Thomas Harrison and his first wife, Mary Kennon, whose son John Harrison married Sarah Barbour,[8] daughter of James. The father of William's wife Catherine was Robert Callender.[9]

Merged Away Duplicate: Noland-500 was originally entered as Thomas, son of Daniel Noland and Henrietta Smallwood, born in Charles County, Maryland in 1748 and died in 1811 (no location).[10] (See comments.)

Noland-1102 and Noland-500 appear to represent the same person because: Noland-1102 should be merged with Noland-500 (which is a duplicate with the same dates). Noland-500 was incorrectly assigned as a child of Daniel Noland and Henrietta Smallwood without any source info. I removed the link to these incorrect dates.

Does anybody know who ran Noland's Ferry after Thomas?

I don't (and posting here, I'm the only person who'll see this, unless someone stops by the profile - you might want to move it to G2G & tag it Noland Virginia pre-1700 ... maybe Awbrey and/or Aubrey too?)

P.S. I double-checked Milesian Mountaineers, and the abstract of Thomas's will on p 111 does not include who he left Noland's Ferry to.

The Maryland archives tells us that Thomas Noland (Nowland) was in Thomas Burke's company in 1776. Has anybody seen any more information, especially any that would tell us about how long he served. I see no applications for a pension which is not surprising given his income from the ferry business.

his DAR record has some info - https://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search_adb/default.cfm?action=full&p_id=A084241

Cheers, Liz

P.S. Posting here sends an e-mail to profile managers, excluding the sender, so it was just me who saw this. You might want to move it to G2G.
