Property

In 1866, John George Nolte took over the lease of Lot 18, Concession 16, Ellice Township, Perth County from John Kastner, and earded the deed in 1871. John George sold the farm in 1876 to Joachim Witt.

Meanwhile, in 1875, John George Nolte purchased Lot 22, Concession 2, Ellice Township from John Kastner. Here his family lived in the existing single-storey frame house that Mr. Kastner built. There was also a sawmill at the dam on Black Creek. John George continued to clear the land here and held onto this farm until 1886 when he sold to Frederick Ische.

In 1880, John George also purchased a 92 1/2 acre farm at Lot 22, Concession 2, Ellice Township, from John G. Moser. He passed this farm on to his son, David in 1884.

Immigration

According to the birth of son, David being in Germany and daughter, Sophia Louise being born in Canada, John George must have immigrated between 1854 and 1858. Son David's 1901 census form indicates the family immigrated in 1856.
