Biography

My grandfather was born in Harrison County, West Virginia in May 1894. The handwritten WV birth record as well as the WV Birth Index states that Thomas A Noon was born on 22 May 1894. All other records (including military) state he was born on 28 May 1894.

School: 3rd grade.

Served in WWI - Army. He may have been a medic (oral history).

He married Lilly N. M. Taylor on 5 April 1920 in Washington, DC.

They had at least six living children: Madeline, Frances, Barbara, Theresa, Thomas A, and Richard P. One child, Joseph Martin Noone, died; he fell, 40 feet, into a well on Easter 1925. {There is a newspaper article.}

Thomas, Lilly, and their family lived in Washington, DC.

Lilly died on 12 June 1932. Upon Lilly's death, the girls went to an orphanage and the boys went to family. Apparently, my grandfather could not handle the death of his wife (oral history). As of 1935, he still lived in Washington, DC.

According to the 1940 census, my grandfather was a lodger back in Clarksburg, Harrison, West Virginia. He was working as a 'Carpenter Junior Foreman'.

My grandfather eventually ended up in Hampton, Virginia, USA, which is where he died on 14 JUN 1956.

A mystery regarding the spelling of the last name... Thomas A Noon was officially born and died as 'Noon'. I don't know why he and his family picked up an 'E', and went by the name 'Noone'. All of the children have the last name of 'Noone' and have passed that name down.
