John Henry Norman was born in 1823, the son of James Ormond Norman and his wife Mary Bethune. After a brief first marriage, in 1852 he married Emily Elizabeth Loades,[1] and they had four children. In the 1881 UK census, he was a "Secretary-Clerk" living with his second wife and two of their daughters in Hampstead, next door to the Austrian theologian, Baron Friedrich von Hügel.[2] He passed away in 1900.
