Edward Lewis Fearon was born in 1876. He was the son of Julia and William Alford Norman of Cambridge, England. He married Marion Wade in 1898 [1] He passed away in 1917 age 41 [2]
E L F Norman (service number 11/2348 served in the Army during World War I, He was a Private in the Wellington Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion A farmer in civilian life, he gave his next of kin as Mrs Marion Norman (wife), of Mangorei, New Plymouth, Taranaki, He served with the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, He embarked 04 Mar 1916 aboard HMNZT 47 or HMNZT 48 the vessels Willochra or Tofua arriving 8 April 1916 to Suez, Egypt as a Trooper in the Wellington Mounted Rifles, B Squadron 10th Contingent of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force . He died of wounds, 27 July 1917 in Belgium, and is buried at Trois Arbres Cemetery, in Steenwerck, Nord, France (Grave I. V. 19 ) [3]
Mrs. Norman, of Mangorei, has received the sad tidings that her husband , Edward Lewis Fearon Norman, died of wounds somewhere in France on July 27. Mr. Norman left New Zealand with the Mounted Rifles in the 10th Reinforcements. going first to Egypt, from where he volunteered for service in France with the infantry. He was wounded at tho battle of the Somme, and suffered from shell shock, but was soon able to rejoin his unit, and finally made the supreme sacrifice. [4]
