Biography

According to family historian Don Norman[1]:

John Norman, a son of James and Mary (Nedley) Norman, was born in 1798. On October 24, 1816, John Norman, a shoemaker by trade, married Nancy Montgomery in Randolph County VA (WV). Nancy died about 1840 and John married Orinda Holbert, February 1, 1842, in Lewis County VA (WV). By 1860 John Norman had moved to Lewis County VA (WV), where on June 11, 1860, near Weston, census taker Alfred H. Jackson recorded John's family.

Little else is known of John Norman. His wife, Orinda owned land on Polk Creek, Lewis County VA (WV) near Weston. A John Norman is buried beside James Norman in the Meadows Cemetery, near Normantown WV. It may be he.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Norman-2865 and Norman-62 appear to represent the same person because: The parents names are the same. I think the birth location as Connecticut is an error based on the birth of a different John Norman. see comment section. Other than the possibly erroneous birth location, the profiles appear to be the same person. I have not been able to locate a source for his death.

I question the birth location of John Norman. This record has Preston City, New London, Connecticut. But when I search for a source for that I find here: https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/1034/VBMDUSACT1634_0035-0181?pid=574855&backurl=https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv%3D1%26dbid%3D1034%26h%3D574855%26tid%3D%26pid%3D%26usePUB%3Dtrue&treeid=&personid=&hintid=&usePUB=true&usePUBJs=true&_ga=2.215917207.1620903646.1587002777-177985274.1577646394#?imageId=VBMDUSACT1634_0035-0181

That John Norman born 1794 is the son of a JOHN Norman and wife Mary. So not the same John Norman who was son of JAMES Norman and Mary Nedley. So it is a possibility but raises a question that needs further research.
