Betsey Norman was born in Brixham, Devon in 1822. She was the daughter of William Norman, a labourer, and his wife Elizabeth, being baptised at St Mary's Church, Brixham on October 13th of that year. [1]
She married William Henry Williams, a fisherman, on June 13th 1847 at St Mary's Church, Brixham. At the time she married she was working as a dressmaker. [2]
In 1851, she was living in Brixham with her two daughters and a visitor named Jane Weymouth. Her husband was away fishing. [3]
A decade, later in 1861, she was still living in Brixham with her husband, one of her daughters and two sons. [4]

1) Whilst others spelt her name 'Betsy', when we look at her own signature on her marriage record she signs her name 'Betsey'.
