James Nedley Norman, served as the 1st Sheriff in Calhoun County, WV in 1856. James swore in his wife, Catherine, and their two sons, Alpheus and Philip to serve as his Deputy Sheriffs. Alpheus followed in his father's footsteps and was elected Sheriff for two terms in 1860 and 1864. [1]
