In his Great Migration Newsletter", Volume 18, Jan-Mar 2009, Robert C. Anderson mentions that there is no definitive proof that the Elizabeth who married Francis Parrat was in fact the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Coole) Northend. [1]
John and Elizabeth (Coole) Northend both died in 1625. John's brother Robert and Rev. Ezekiel Rogers were charged with administering a trust for the younger children. John's will names children Anthony, Elizabeth, Margaret, Ezekiel, and Joan, with eldest son John implied. In a 1678 letter to Ezekiel, Anthony mentions brother John and sister Joan (Stout). These three siblings had remained in England. Ezekiel came to Massachusetts in 1638 with Rev. Rogers. Anthony also mentions that he is glad to hear from Ezekiel that his sisters and their husbands are also well.[1] This would mean that Elizabeth and Margaret had also emigrated and married (but not necessarily in that order).
Francis Parrat also emigrated as part of Rev. Roger's group.
Given the strong circumstantial evidence, the biography below assumes that the Elizabeth who married Francis Parrat was the daughter, otherwise unaccounted for, of John and Elizabeth (Coole) Northend.
Elizabeth Northend Elizabeth Northend was born about 1618 in Ripplingham, Rowley, Yorkshire, England, based on her marriage year of 1639, and on baptismal years of 1620, 1622, and 1624 for her younger siblings.
Both of Elizabeth's parents died in 1625, leaving young children. Elizabeth's brother Ezekiel emigrated with Rev. Ezekiel Rogers in 1638. It is reasonable to assume that Elizabeth and Mary also came over with the Rogers group: three underage orphaned siblings having close family connections with Rev. Rogers.[2]
Elizabeth married Francis Parrat about 1639, based on the birth year of their first child, in Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts.[3]
Elizabeth and Francis had children, all born in Rowley:[4][5]
Francis Parrat wrote his will 18 November 1655, prior to a voyage to England. He died in England in 1656. His will was proven 30 September 1656. In it he gives wife Elizabeth 100 pounds and his house and lot. The remainder of his estate is to be divided among his six daughters, each to receive her share when age 21 or married.[8]
On 24 February 1658 Elizabeth Parratt married Thomas Tenney, in Rowley.[9][4]
Elizabeth Tenney is said to have died in Bradford, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony on 17 November 1694, although no actual death record has been found. Find A Grave: Memorial #57173276
