Edna Gertrude Straight (née Northrop) was born on 22 November 1871. It is unclear where she was born, since she did not list a birthplace on her marriage record. It could have been in either Springwater, Livingston; Potter, Yates; or Wayland, Steuben, New York. Springwater is the most likely, as that is where her other "siblings" were born and was also where she was raised. Her biological parents are currently unknown, but she was raised by Jane Launt Northrop, widow of Civil War Private Needham Northrop.
Celia Marvel shares the most DNA with a descendant of Eva and a descendant of Jane's daughter Mary Edna Northrop. There is solid evidence that Eva was the biological daughter of Ida L Northrop Rumsey. Specifically, Eva listed "Chris Littlefield" as her father on her marriage record from 1889, and a "Christopher Littlefield" was living with the family at the 1875 New York State census; he was over 35 years older than Ida. Additionally, Ida was listed as "Ida Littlefield" at the 1880 federal census, and stated at the 1910 federal census that she had given birth to one child.
Edna listed "Needham Northrop" as her father on her marriage record in 1896, as did her older "sister" Celia on her marriage record in 1899. However, this was impossible for both of them because Needham died in 1864; Celia was born in 1868 and Edna was born in 1871.
