According to his online grave memorial site, Whitfield Amos Northrup was a son of Amos Northrup (1765-1835). By inference, then, his mother probably was Elizabeth (Stedman; 1773-1852). The birth of Whitfield Amos Northrup probably occurred in 1799, in Tyringham, Massachusetts.
One spouse, Ann Fowler (abt.1805-abt.1832), is linked, which describes Ann, 1st wife W.A. Northrup and dau David & Polly Fowler d. 30 Mar 1832 in the 27th year her age. The depicted grave marker is inscribed likewise [1].
Three children may have resulted from this union, only one of whom survived:
Whitfield Amos Northrup may have married second time, to someone circumspectly described as Emily T. Bishop, appearing in a 1875 New York state census record of her son-in-law, Henry L. Cole, at which time her age was 64 years, which calculates to her birth in about 1810 or 1811. Her birth location is given as Massachusetts [2].
The following children are probable from the putative second marriage of Whitfield Amos Northrup:
The grave of Col. Whitfield Amos Northrup is in Lenox Rural Cemetery, Lenox, Madison County, New York, USA [4]. The depicted grave marker is inscribed WHITFIELD A. NORTHRUP DIED April 18, 1841 AGED 42 YRS., thus calculating to a birth in 1798 to early 1799.
Surname spelling convention of this lineage was Northrup.
Existence and supporting data on the third child of his first marriage is inscribed on the grave marker of Ann (Fowler) as follows [5]:
The identity of Emily T. Bishop is very poorly described. It is possible that she was the Emily Bishop who was born possibly 25 March 1810 in Chester, Massachusetts, possibly becoming the spouse of John Nathaniel Fuller [6]. If such is the case, then the the FSearch profile for Emily is fully garbled, as the name of her spouse is given as John Fuller Bishop [7]. Probative investigation is encouraged to rule in/out these relationships.
The following "life sketch" appears in an online family "searching" service, of which only a small portion of its information is supported by its sole source, the currently cited online F-A-G site. Quite importantly, no evidence has been produced to associate the surname Patton, or Patten, with the ostensible second marriage of Whitfield Amos Northrup. Sourcing should be strengthened if possible, using credible references and with evidentiary files posted to this profile. Life Sketch [8]
