Biography

Estella Lowean Charles, 85, of Sweet Home died Friday in Lebanon.

She was born to Elmer Elsworth and Minta Bell (Savage) Norton at home in rural Benton County. She attended various schools in the Philomath and Corvallis area. She lived and worked mostly in the Newport, Toledo and Chitwood area. Most of the time, she was a stay at home wife. Although she never gave birth to any children of her own, she was a mother and grandmother to many.

Estella loved to cook and bake for anyone who would let her. During her life, she loved nothing better than to farm or raise animals. She also loved to hunt and fish. While living in the Newport area, she was a very accomplished bowler. She also enjoyed being in a bowling league in the Lebanon area in later years.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and lots of friends.

Sisters Olive Swartz and Elsie Evans, brothers Jack Norton and Pete Norton, and husbands Grant Downing and Otto Charles preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be Saturday at Mount Union Cemetery.
