Mary Norton was daughter of Sir Richard Norton of Tisted in Hampshire, [1]and his wife, Katherine Kingsmill.
She married Sir William Uvedale of Wickham, [1] son of William Uvedale and his wife, Ellyn Gresham.
In 1607 William settled on her the borough of Wickham for life which passed to her on his death in 1616. [2] By 1626 Wickham was in the hands of her son, William, [2] which perhaps means that Mary had died by then.
Mary shares a monument with William at St Nicholas Church, Wickham. The monument suggests that they were parents of four daughters and three sons, one of whom died young. [3]
The review of Thomas Benolt's Visitation of Hampshire [4] and Barry's Hants Pedigrees [5] both mistakenly show William, Mary's husband, as son of his actual grandfather, Arthur Uvedale and his grandmother,Anne Haselwood.
