John was born October 6, 1819 in Alabama. He was the son of John Norton and Mary Owen.
After the death of his father-n-law, Bird L. Stafford, the family was divided in a dispute over his estate.

John passed away November 18, 1875 in Spanish Fort, Montague County, Texas. The location of his burial is not known.
