Lucy was a founder and President of the Ladies' Relief Hospital in Lynchburg during the Civil War. She was the founder, as well, of the Ann Norvell Orphanage in Lynchburg.
The family Bible notes "She breathed her last on 23rd of May 1866 without a struggle, though just having passed through many attacks in which she was a great but patient and Christian sufferer. May the mantle of her virtues rest on her children. May her spirit hover around them."
Lucy was buried in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia, according to the Diuguid Funeral Home Burial Records, and has a large tombstone shown in a photo in the Find A Grave: Memorial #10525013. [1]
