Biography

George was born ca.1693.
He passed away in 1786.

Notes

He lived in St. Paul's Parish about 12 miles from Richmond.
His grandson Norvell Robertson wrote in his diary:
My mother's father, George Norvell, was a citizen of Hanover co. on the north side of the James R., some 12 miles from Richmond. He was tolerably wealthy but bein opposed to her marriage, never gave my mother anything but one Negro girl.
A few interesting details about George Norvell appear in the Partridge Store Accounts. On 31 August. 1737, he bought a Bible; on 13 April 1738 he bought a "fine hat"; and on 26 Oct. 1738 he bought a pair of mourning buckles.
Prior to 1733 George lived in Charles City Co., Virginia. where he and one James Norvell cosigned several legal documents as early as 1725.

The St. Paul's Parish, Hanover County, Virginia Vestry Book 1706-1786. notes that George Norvell was a landowner as early as 1733. The 1743 processioning records state: "The lands of George Norvell abut the lands of IsaacWinston." In 1756 the processioning records note: "The lands of George Norvell abut the lands of IsaacWinston now the lands of John Bowles." Virginia Tithables from Burned Record Counties states that George Norvell owned 282 acres in Hanover County, Virginia. The St. Paul's Parish processioning records of 12 November. 1779, also notes that he was a landowner.

The Special Tax Record for Hanover County taken in 1780, doesn't mention George Norvell, but William Norvell is shown as having 300 acres.
George Norvell was a land owner in St. Paul's Parish, Hanover County, Virginia, as early as 1733, according to the Vestry Book from this Parish of 1706-1786. The land size is described as 282 acres in the book "Virginia Tithables from Burned Record Counties" by the Woodsons. The processioning record of St. Paul's Parish of 12 Nov 1779 is the last time that George appears as a land owner in the area. The following year, 1780, William is shown instead as having 300 acres there.
