The Gichard family arrived in New Zealand aboard the Howrah that brought 380 immigrants, including William, his brother Edward and Edward's wife Emma, and other brother Joseph, plus his mother Julia. It sailed from London on the 26th August 1874 and arrived in Wellington on the 30th November 1874.
