Biography

Andrzej Nowak was born on May 28, 1851, in Kolonia Xawerów (now Ksawerów) in Pabianice parish, Poland[1]. His parents were Ludwik Nowak, 32-years-old wever living in Xawerów, and his 20-years-old wife Katarzyna Nowak born Szer.

He was baptized the next day, on May 29. The witnesses were Hajnrych (Heinrich or Henryk) Otto, aged 40, farmer from Rypułtowice, and Andrzej Gielewicz, aged 22, a carpenter from Pabianice. The ceremony was led by the Rev. Urbankiewicz. The godparents were Andrzej Gielewicz and Ewa Grambo.

At the age of 29, he married 16-years-old Maria (or Marianna) Haker, daughter of Józef Haker and Barbara born Just, on February 2, 1880, in Pabianice St Matthew church[2]. The groom was living in Rypułtowice and he was a soldier of the reserve. The bride was living with her parents in Ksawerowo. The witnesses were Jan Just, aged 40, and Piotr Kun, aged 50, farmers from Rypułtowice. The ceremony was led by the Rev. Edward Szulc.

They had at least eleven children, six of whom died early[3]:

  • Juliusz Nowak, born in 1883;
  • Berta Maria Nowak, born in 1885;
  • Roman Nowak, born in 1887 (mother's maiden name in the record: Hakert), died in 1887;
  • Adam Tomasz Nowak, born in 1888;
  • Ludwik Bernard Nowak, born in 1891;
  • Szczepan Nowak, born in 1892;
  • Leon Nowak, born and died in 1895;
  • Anna Nowak, born and died in 1897;
  • Władysław Nowak, born in 1898, died in 1899 (lived one year and two months);
  • Franciszek Nowak, born about 1900, died in 1909 (lived nine years);
  • Natalia Nowak, born about 1903, died in 1909 (lived six years).

Andrzej Nowak passed away on May 31, 1908, in Pabianice[4]. His wife Marianna became a widow. The witnesses were Edward Wejerowicz, aged 43, and Piotr Nowak, aged 52, weavers from Pabianice. The death record was written by the Rev. Edward Szulc.
