Frederick was born in 1852. He was the son of William Nowell and Ann Pillinger. His birth was registered, with his first name Frederick, in the 4th quarter of 1852 at Chippenham, Wiltshire, England. He was baptised (with his first name given as Edward in the transcript on Familysearch) at Box, Wiltshire on 14 November 1852.[1] Census and other records name him as Frederick Edward or Frederick E Nowell.
