Biography

This profile is part of the Nowell Name Study.

William Nowell was born 1794 in Johnston County, North Carolina. He was the son of James Nowell and Letitia Wilder.[1] He married Martha Earp on 23 Oct 1819 in Johnston County, North Carolina[2]; she was the oldest child of Jonathan Earp and Dorothe Wilder. They had 6 children.[3] In 1830 and 1840 they are living in Johnston County, and by 1850 they had moved to St. Mary's District in Wake County. He must have acquired land there, because his occupation was listed as a farmer. On the 1880 Census, William is 86 and Martha is 83.[4] He passed away sometime after 1880; it is not known where he is buried.

Nowell-2933 and Nowell-387 appear to represent the same person because: Hi Dola,

I've checked out all available sources, compared names and dates, etc. and I'm confident that our Williams' are the same person.

I tried to verify our DNA relationship via GEDmatch, but had no luck. Given the genetic distance, I suspect there's no significant overlapping DNA sequences.

Nevertheless, if everything looks good to you I'd like to merge the profiles. Let me know if there's any other info you need, or if you have any objections to this.

Thank you for reaching out and helping make this connection, cousin!

Sincerely, Tyler Rowland (Rowland-14011)
