James was born about 1683 in Dorchester County, MD.. He was the son of James Nowell and Margaret Harwood. We do not know who he married or his children. The last we know of James is in a land record dated June 1746.
He is mentioned in the will of John Whitley which was filed in 1701 in Dorchester County. A daughter of James Nowell, Sr. is also mentioned. [1]
"Dorchester Land Record 6 Old 74 dated September 8, 1705, shows that James Noell, Jr. was 22 years old then and Record 6 Old 215 dated February 8, 1713, identifies him as a carpenter."[2]
