Biography

George Washington Nowling is the son of Patrick Frederick Nowling and Mariah (Tidwell) Nowling. George married Elizabeth Charity Bain (aka Bane) and had five children. [1]

"Was a Private in the 33rd Alabama Infantry. He fought in and survived the Battle of Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, King's Mountain. Was taken prisoner at the Battle of Atlanta and taken prisoner to Goldsboro, NY. He was released at the end of the war and probably had to walk all the way home, possibly even barefoot."

On August 4, 1870, in Crenshaw, Alabama, G.W. Nowling married Elizabeth C. Bain. [2]

George Washington Nowling died February 11, 1922, in Crenshaw county, Alabama and is buried in the cemetery of the Weed Baptist Church. [3]
