Biography

Benjamin Collard Nurcombe was born in 1795 in Wiveliscombe, Somerset, England. He was the son of Robert Nurcombe and Mary Collard. Benjamin was christened at Wiveliscombe on 23 September 1795.[1]

His mother, Mary, died in 1797 when he was two years old.

Benjamin married Sarah Wedlake on 27 March 1821 in Williton district, Somerset.[2]

Benjamin and Sarah had at least the following children:

  2. John Nurcombe
  3. Benjamin Nurcombe m Adelaide Gunningham
  4. James Nurcombe
  5. Philip Nurcombe m1 Mary Chapman m2 Hannah Bailey
  6. Mary Ann Nurcombe m William Webber
  7. Elizabeth Nurcombe m Frederick Howe

In 1841, Benjamin and Sarah were living at West St, Watchet, Somerset with five of their children. Benjamin was a stone mason.[3]

In 1851, the family still lived at West St, Watchet.[4]

By 1871, Benjamin and Sarah were living with their daughter, Elizabeth Howe, and her family in West St, Watchet.[5]

His wife Sarah died in 1876 and in the 1881 census Benjamin was still living with his daughter Elizabeth and her family in West St.[6]

Benjamin Collard Nurcombe died between January and March 1885 in the Williton district of Somerset.[7]
