Biography

This profile is part of the Eastrington, Yorkshire One Place Study.
Joseph was baptised in 1830 in Eastrington, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of Isaac Nurse and Hannah Thompson.[1] In 1841 Joseph lived with his parents in Eastrington.[2]

Joseph never married. At the time of the 1851 census, he worked as a saddler and was visiting the Clark family at Waterton Hall in Luddington, Lincolnshire.[3] In 1861 he lived with his sister, Margaret, on High Bridge in Howden, Yorkshire,[4] but they had returned to Eastrington by 1871.[5]

Joseph died in 1874 at the age of 44[6] and was buried in Eastrington. The burial register noted:

"At the funeral of Joseph Nurse, the Volunteers attended in full force from Howden. J. Nurse had been a colour sergeant in the corps." [7]
