Biography

Charles was born^[1] and baptised in 1872 in Eastrington, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of Richard Nurse and Mary Robinson.^[2]

Charles's father gave up farming in 1877,^[3] and by 1881 the family lived in Skircoat near Halifax, west Yorkshire.^[4] Charles was a joiner's apprentice in 1891^[5] and had completed his apprenticeship by 1901, when he lived with his parents in Halifax.^[6]
