Joins Leathernecks
Francis X. Nuwer

It’s "Life with the Leathernecks” for another local man, the Marine Corps recruiting station announced today. He is Francis X. Nuwer, 22, of 21 West Main Street, Lancaster.

The new Leatherneck, determined to do his part in the nation's all out war effort, remarked, "I'm glad I’m in the Marine Corps— it looks like just about the best branch of service for the kind of action I want."

After seven weeks of intensive basic training at the huge Marine Corps training center at Parris Island, S.C., the youthful Devil Dog will specialize in the duty that fits him best—on land, sea, or in the air.

At Parris Island, recruits are instructed in close order drill, the .30 calibar rifle, .45 calibar pistol, bayonet, and many other Marine Corps basic weapons of war.
