Hey Cobern,

Thank you for joining us! I wanted to check in with you to see how things are going. How do you like WikiTree so far? Have the tips in the New Member How To Pages been helpful or have they left you with questions? How is the hunt for sources going? I love the images you uploaded. It would be perfect if you could describe the documents in the biographies, turning them into real references.

Please let me know if you have any questions about WikiTree. To contact me, log in to WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment to be sure that I will be notified. P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

I'm not sure what you mean as the Title of the document is in the title and the person in my tree is tagged.

Hey Cobern,

Like I said: it is really great that you are adding the images of the sources. Please continue doing so. I just would like to give some pro-tips.

The format for references to sources is given at the sources help page. So for instance for Willis L. Bromley (abt.1908-2005) the document you uploaded will be a real source if you describe it in the sources list, or use the inline reference to the source.

So something like "Registration Card DSS form1, Issued by NAME ORGANISATION, LOCATION, DATE, CURRENT HOLDER OF CARD, see image attached" Every source description has all the information that enables anyone to find the card and verify it. The current title of the document is WWII Draft Card, but that does not state what it is, from where etc. As another example, I have adjusted the link on Herman G. Bromley (aft.1850-1915) to create a fuller source reference. You can see all changes in the changes tab on the profile.

I hope this helps and inspires a bit,

Michel

Welcome Cobern, and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

You mentioned that you are new to genealogy. No problem! We were all beginners at some point. Take your time, keep track of sources, and ask questions. Check here for tips.

Happy tree climbing
