Biography

Juan Virgilio Nunez Nunez was born in January 9, 1899, the son of Jose Eugenio Nunez Fernandez and Maria Justiniana Nunez Payan. During his youth he had issues with drinking and gambling and had a daughter with a household maid. Around a year after his daughter's birth her mother, who was said to have had some type of mental problem, bathed her in a river and she got sick she died soon after. As Virgilio grew older he became a devote member of the church and married Corina Antonia Rodriguez Nunez, a second cousin on his mother's side, in 1919. After a failed pregnancy, Corina could not have another child. They raised a nephew of Corina together named Jose who would later inherit some of his land. Corina's mental health deteriorated after not being able to have children. In 1960 Virgilio had a grocery store and a tobacco farm in Angostura. In the same year Virgilio met Ramona Almonte. Wanting to have biological children (Ramona had proven to be fertile as she already had a son) the two agreed to enter into a relationship. At the same time he was suffering with cancer of either the pancreas or stomach. Ramona was pregnant living with Virgilio in Santiago de los Caballeros on Calle Presidente Salcedo. She gave birth to a son in January 1961. Virgilio at this time was on the verge of death and made arrangements with his youngest brother "Chichi" to provide a part of the income from the store to support his son though after his death, Chichi did not keep to his promise. Virgilio died August 27, 1961 in Angostura at the age of 62 with Ramona being four months pregnant with another son who would be born in January 1962.
