Biography

Mary was born about 1861 in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland. She was the daughter of John O’Brien and Catherine McMahon. [1] She immigrated with her mother to Australia around 1890. She became the licensee of the City Hotel, Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. At the time of her mother Catherine's passing in July 1904 she was unmarried. [2] She married John McCormick in 1909 in Victoria, Australia. [3] She passed away on 14 February 1947 at 14 Britten Street, Glen Iris, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia at the residence of her cousin, Mrs G. White. [4] [5] A requiem mass for the repose of her soul was held at St. Kilian's Church, McCrae Street, Bendigo on 15 February 1947 at 8am. Subsequent to the mass at 9.45am a funeral procession ensued to her final resting place. [6] She was buried on 15 February 1947 at Eaglehawk Cemetery, Eaglehawk, Greater Bendigo City, Victoria, Australia with her mother Catherine. [7]

Death claimed another victim yesterday in the person of Mrs. Catherine O'Brien, who resided with her daughter, Miss O'Brien, licensee of the City hotel, Barnard-street. The deceased lady, who was a native of County Clare, Ireland, came to Victoria 14 years ago and had reached the advanced age of 68 years.
