The below information may refer to a different Ellen O'Brien from Carrigroe as the death record said that Sister Mary Angela died at the age of 35, which would have put her birth slightly later. There was another Ellen O'Brien born in Carrigroe to a Patrick O'Brien in 1845 and a Michael McCarthy contacted me suggesting that this Ellen, daughter of Daniel O'Brien and Mary Murray, was his great-grandmother who married a John McCarthy in the 1860s.
More information is need to corroborate claims one way or another.
Sister Mary Angela, Bandon Convent
From Sr. Maura Finn at Bandon Convent: "In reply to your inquiry about your relatives I give you what I could find in Convent Annals. There is very little information about Sister Mary Angela - Ellen O'Brien born in Carrigroe in 1842. She died in our convent in 1879 aged 37 years. To quote our Annals 'This year 1879 was the 50th.Jubilee of the convent. It should have been celebrated in May but owing to the death of Sr. Angela O'Brien the celebration was postponed'. She is buried in the convent cemetery."
