Biography

Daughter of James O'BRIEN and Catherine FRAYER.

  • 21 Nov 1875 Bridget departed Gravesend at age 17 with her brother John
  • 27 Feb 1876 Arrived in Auckland
  • 1881 Married Peter MCDERMOTT and settled at Te Kopuru
  • Then moved to Dargaville, which shortened the distance to the Avoca district where Peter and her son were cutting a farm out of the bush.
  • 1905 - 1938 Living at Avoca , Kaipara

Gravestone inscription reads "In loving memory of Bridget our dear mother and wife of Peter McDermott died 18 Mar 1941. Also her beloved dau Elsie Winifred McDermott died 9 Aug 1976 aged 77 years. Rest in Peace"
