Biography

Daniel Joseph O'Connell was born on June 13, 1858 in East Providence, Rhode Island to Catherine Kennedy, age 30, and John O'Connell, age 33. He had five siblings: Annie, Ellen "Nellie" Catherine, John Leo, David Henry II, and Robert J O'Connell.

In 1870, at the age of 12, Daniel lived in East Providence, Rhode Island with his family. He worked as a servant, according to the census. In 1874, his mother Catharine passed away in Rhode Island. In 1875, he lived on Valley Street in East Providence and worked as a laborer in an oil mill.

By 1876, Daniel moved to St. Louis, Missouri. In 1880, he boarded at 220 South 4th Street, which was the Atlantic Hotel and worked as an oil refiner. In 1882, his sister Annie passed away in St. Louis.

In 1884, Daniel married Mary Jane Morrison in St. Louis. They had five children: Mary Jane Estelle, John James, Catherine Gertrude, Agnes Ellen "Nellie," Daniel Gerard, and Anna "Tutsie." In 1885, Daniel's father John passed away in Rhode Island.

In 1891, Agnes Ellen "Nellie" was born in Houston, Texas, where the family had moved. In 1892, Daniel's brother David Henry II passed away in East Providence, Rhode Island. By 1897, the family had moved to Dallas, Texas, where they welcomed their daughter Dorothy Elizabeth in 1900.
