Biography

Thomas was born on Aug 28, 1795 and baptized on October 4, 1795 at St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Michael Connors and Elizabeth Slate.

Thomas and family had moved from Lunenburg to Cap Forchu, Yarmouth Township, Nova Scotia, before the birth of his sister Elizabeth on September 1st, 1799. The Connors family surname was known by this time as O'Connor and the family moved to Broad Cove, Digby, NS, before the birth of Thomas' brother James on May 4th, 1813. His father Michael was listed as a yeoman so owned his own land around this time. (Deed research required).

Thomas married Mary Ann Adams on May 1st, 1834, in the Parish of Trinity, Digby. They had children: (profiles to be created)

  • John
  • Martha
  • Michael
  • Mary Elizabeth
  • Charles W.
  • Annie A.

According to William Edward Chute's A genealogy and history of the Chute family in America, Thomas passed away in 1860.

Research Notes

Some Ancestry and FamilySearch trees show Thomas Connors/O'Connor as being born around 1806. The 1871 Census records that he was 83 years old at that time. It is possible that the first Thomas Connors passed away young and his parents named a later son Thomas. Although no sources have yet been found to support this, it makes sense from the Census age standpoint.
