Ellen Louise O'Connor was born in Alton, Illinois about 1866. Her parents Michael O'Connor and Mary Hanley were Irish immigrants, married in New York. [1]
In 1873 Ellen's family moved from Alton, Illinois to Sioux City, Iowa. [11][10]
Ellen went into teaching, like her sister Mary J. [12][13] She married Patrick J Conner, a railroad clerk, in 1895. Her sister Rosa was witness. Ellen's nickname must have been Ella; this is the name on the marriage record. [14][15][16] She decided to quit teaching a few years later, in order to raise her children. [17]
According to census records Ella "kept house"; her husband Patrick was employed as clerk, accountant, or salesman. [18][19]
Her youngest son Francis married in 1924 and made his home in Sioux City. Her two other children married in the 1930's and moved to Nebraska.
[24][25]
In 1940 Ella and her sister Mary J O'Connor were at home in Sioux City,
on 19th Street. [26]
Ellen L. Conner died unexpectedly at the home of her daughter Rosemary, in Topeka, Kansas, in July of 1952. [27]
