Biography

This profile is part of the Gorman Name Study.

Thomas was born about 1820.

In October 1840 a birth record was found for Jane Gorman, in the Diocese of Killaoe.Clare, Newmarker on Fergus Irealnd. Her parents were Thos Gorman and Eliza Malone [1]

Feb 1843 in the Diocese of Killaloe, Thomas Gorman and Betty Malone, both of Kilkishen, were married in the Diocese of Killaloe, O'Callaghan's Mills parish in County Clare on 13 February 1843. The witnesses were Daniel Madden of [O'Callaghan's] Mills and Ellen Cain of Mt. Allan. The marriage record is in Latin: "Dispensatio pontifica in 2ndo gradu consanguinitas" (pontifical dispensation in 2nd degree consanguinity).[2] It is unclear why the dispensation came from the pope, rather than from the local bishop. Seems the relationship between bride and groom was first cousin or closer.[3]

On 3 May 1843 om the diocese of Killaloe, Clare, Quin, Ireland, Ruby Gorman was baptised and her parents were shown to be Ths Gorman and Betty Mahon. [4]Family lore tells us that jane and Michael had a sister named Bridget and a Bridget Gorman immigrated in May of 1863, the same year that Michael and Jane immigrated, so could Ruby and Bridget be the same person?

on 13 June 1845 in the Diocese of Killaloe, Clare Quin, Ireland, their son, Michael Gorman was baptised. Parents shown to be Thomas Gormand and Betty Malone.[5]

It is unknown when Thomas and Betty passed away.

Reserach Notes

Do more research on their daughter Ruby to see if she is the Bridget of family lore and the Bridge that immigrated the same year as Michael and Jane.
