Ernest was born in 1893. He was the son of Mary and Patrick O'Grady [1] He married Beatrice Violet Susannah Frost in 1915 [2]. He passed away in 1918 age 26 [3].
E W O'grady , service number 63764 , served in the Army during World War 1. He was a Private in the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion . A storeman in civilian life, he gave his next of kin as Mrs Violet Beatrice O'Grady (wife), of Franklyn Rise, Nelson, He embarked 21 Nov 1917 from Wellington, arriving 7 January 1918 to Liverpool, Merseyside aboard HMNZT 96 the vessel Maunganui . He was sent as Lance Corporal in the 32nd Reinforcements, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, C Company in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. He Died of wounds, 1 October 1918 in France, and is buried at the Grevillers British Cemetery, in Pas-de-Calais, France (Grave ref. XV. C. 22. ). His name appears on the Nelson Cenotaph, at Anzac Park, Nelson [4]
