Biography

Henry Stuart O'Hara was born about 1914. He was the son of Albert Bourke O'Hara and his wife Isabella (nee Graham). Isabella passed away in 1931 and Albert in 1939. At some time previous to 1939 both Henry O'Hara and his brother John O'Hara changed their surnames to Day, and listed Henry Stuart Day as their father,

In 1939 now known as Henry Stuart Day, he married Jane Adams in Perth Western Australia. The went on to have at least one daughter called Jeannie.

His World War II Attestation Paper's state: DAY HENRY STUART : Service Number - WX3273 : Date of birth - 16 Jan 1914 : Place of birth - BAYSWATER WA : Place of enlistment - PERTH WA : Next of Kin - DAY JANE.

He passed away on about the 2nd of December 1942 in Egypt while serving with the 2nd 28th Infantry Battalion, Australian Army, and was laid to rest at the Alexandria Hadra War Cemetery at Alexandria, Al Iskandariyah, Egypt.

From The West Australian newspaper of Tuesday 23 October 1945 we see a Death Notice for his brother which gives more information on this family:

DAY.- ln loving memory of John Wilson (Wass) NX53100. 1st Independent Ccy. A.I.F.. now presumed dead with all his mates on prison ship, Montevideo Maru. about July. 1942; younger brother of Harry (Gay). of 2/28th Anti-Tank Guns, who died of wounds. Alamein. 1942 Dad and Alice (673 Murray-street). and. aunty. sister, Doll Kellie (N.SW.).

The senior Henry Stuart Day who both John and Henry had listed as their father when they enlisted, passed away in 1951 in Perth Western Australia. And from The West Australian newspaper of Wednesday 31 January 1951 we see this Henry Stuart Day's Death Notice below:

DAY: On January 30. 1951. suddenly, at his residence, 673 Murray-street, West Perth. Henry Stuart, beloved husband of Alice Jane Day, loving father of Yay (deceased) and Wilson (deceased) fond grandfather of Jeannie; aged 68 years.

Not Just goodbye, but au revoir.
