Biography

Ann has been difficult to trace. She is mentioned as Ann O'Keefe on the baptism record of baby Ann in 1845[1] and son Richard's death certificate in 1920[2]. However Richard's marriage certificate from 1887 says Ann McShane[3].

As the only name given by Ann herself is the 1845 record, this is probably most reliable.

Sue Vize (2 x great granddaughter) has DNA matched with descendants of James O'Keeffe of Dublin. James died in 1826 and was buried in Dublin [4].His son James, born about 1799 is the DNA link[5][6].

Further information on James O'Keeffe senior is scanty. There are a couple of James O'Keeffe marriages in Dublin, but also in other counties.

From the known baptisms, Ann was probably born about 1820 or earlier, if she was previously married to a Mr McShane? she may have been born earlier. She probably married Joseph Allen Jesson in the early 1840s. They had two known children: Ann (1845), Richard (1846). She probably passed away before 1851 as her husband Joseph remarried that year and was listed as a widower. Most of the family burials are at Glasnevin Cemetery Dublin, but there is no suitable record for Ann there.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ann by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ann:
